Wide Open Windows respects your privacy. The project exists to investigate lived experience, not to collect personal information about its visitors. Wide Open Windows aims to collect as little personal data as reasonably possible. Overview The website exists to publish texts, images and related material. It is not intended to build visitor profiles or track individuals across the web. 1. Data We May Receive The web server may temporarily process technical information such as your IP address, browser or user agent, the time of your visit and the page you requested. This information may be used for security, maintenance and diagnostic purposes. It is not used to identify visitors as individuals. If you contact me directly, I use your message and contact details only to reply or otherwise deal with that correspondence. 2. Cookies This website does not use analytics cookies. Strictly necessary cookies may be used where they are essential for basic website functionality or security. 3. Anonymous Visitor Statistics Anonymous visitor statistics may be collected to understand how the project is used. No individual visitor profiles are created. At present, Wide Open Windows uses Simple Analytics for basic traffic measurement. Simple Analytics is designed to provide aggregate information without tracking cookies or individual profiling. The information available to me is limited to general statistics such as page views, referrers and broad device categories. 4. Legal Basis and Retention Technical data may be processed where this is necessary for the legitimate interests of operating, securing and maintaining the website. Server logs are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for security and diagnostic purposes. Anonymous analytics data is retained according to the limits and practices of the analytics provider. 5. Sharing Personal data is not sold or traded. Third parties are involved only where necessary to operate the website, provide privacy-respecting statistics, or serve external material that you actively choose to open or play. 6. Your Choices You can block or remove cookies through your browser settings, although this website does not use cookies for analytics. You may also use privacy-oriented browser settings and extensions to limit the information shared with websites generally. 7. Your Rights If you are in the European Union, you may have rights concerning access to, correction of or deletion of personal data that identifies you. In practice, Wide Open Windows is designed to collect as little identifiable personal data as possible, while anonymous visitor statistics are normally aggregate and non-identifying. Privacy and Openness Openness in this project concerns ideas, not people. Visitors are invited to explore Wide Open Windows freely, without being observed more than is reasonably necessary for the operation and security of the website. Last revised: July 2026.
