A memory may evoke a philosophical question. A scientific idea may suddenly illuminate a childhood event. A work of art may transform the meaning of a conversation. Everything connects, but not according to a single hierarchy.
A Different Kind of Structure
The Rhizome reflects this openness. Every page is a window that can be entered independently while remaining connected to many others.
Connections are not arranged from higher to lower, or from more important to less important. They simply express meaningful relationships discovered during the investigation.
This means there is no privileged starting point. The homepage is only one possible entrance.
'Part of', 'Opens to', 'Alongside' and 'Related'
Every window occupies a particular position within the Rhizome.
'Part of' windows provide a broader context. 'Opens to' windows explore particular themes in greater detail. 'Alongside' show the siblings of the current page and 'Related' connections create unexpected relationships between subjects that would normally appear far apart.
These connections are not fixed forever. Like the investigation itself, the Rhizome continues to evolve.
A Living Investigation
The Rhizome is generated directly from the project's knowledge graph. As new ideas, essays, books and investigations appear, new connections emerge naturally.
Consequently, the structure of Wide Open Windows is never completely finished. It grows together with the investigation it represents.
