Every project has a story. This page describes how Wide Open Windows is built, how it evolves, and what remains unfinished.

Consider it the project's own README: a place where the architecture becomes part of the investigation.

A Living Project

Wide Open Windows is never finished.

New windows appear. Existing pages are revised. Connections are added, removed or reconsidered. The project evolves together with the investigation it documents.

The Rhizome

The entire website is generated from a living knowledge graph. Every page corresponds to a node within the Rhizome, and the relationships between pages are derived directly from the project's structure rather than being maintained by hand.

As the Rhizome changes, the website changes with it.

Content

Although the structure is generated automatically, the content itself is written manually. Every essay, investigation and publication is revised continuously as the project develops.

Drafts, unfinished ideas and future directions are considered part of the investigation rather than imperfections to be hidden.

Technology

Wide Open Windows is intentionally lightweight.

The website is built with plain PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, without a content management system or large frameworks. This keeps the structure transparent, portable and easy to maintain over many years.

Versions

Significant changes are recorded in the project's Changelog. Earlier versions are regarded as part of the history of the investigation rather than mistakes that need to disappear.

Open Ended

Like the investigation itself, this website has no final version.

Every completed page is provisional.

Every new connection may change the meaning of what already exists.

Development therefore continues alongside the investigation, one window at a time.
