Introduction

On these extra pages you'll find a few personal items, that have nothing to do with the main Wide Open Windows website and cannot normally be found in search engines. Some are in English, others in Dutch.

On the picture above I am celebrating my 8th birthday in 1961. I am the one with dark hair, looking in the camera. We then lived in Utrecht in the Pasteurstraat, near the entrance of one of the main hospitals. The boy standing next to me is a nephew and the other boy is one of the neighbour kids. On the other side of the table you'll find my sister and her friend, the ponytailed doughter from the neighbours downstairs.

On the other side of the room, I remember, are the adults sitting: my parents and some other visitors. I have no idea who they were and who took the picture.

The book on the sideboard behind me, next to the plant, is kind of an enigma. I don't know anymore who gave it to me as a birthday present and I don't know the title nor the author. I do know that I postponed reading it, because it did not look very interesting. Once I started reading, I found it very touching and emotional. The book is about a boy with black curls and his name sounded Italian or something. If anybody reading this page knows the book, please inform me...

The boys in the picture are reading comics ("Donald Duck"). The girls are building something with "Bambino".

Soon after, I am reading about science in the local newspaper and do my first chemistry tests. And later I will be a nerdy and aloof teenager and now in my 70's I begin to like him more and more :-).
